Last time the store was out of charmin ultra, I bought some the paper closest to the empty charmin area, figuring toilet paper is toilet paper, right? Wrong. This stuff was like wiping with a tree limb. I swear I was able to tell how old the stuff was by counting rings. When my mother in law came to stay with us, she bought some toilet paper. It was far too soft. Like using a kitten. You just didn't feel sanitary afterward. A small amount of scratchiness is important, to let you feel like you've accomplished something. I was thinking today about the nature of freedom, and of slavery.&lt;br /&gt;In particular, I was pondering financial slavery. Back in the 1950s, a man would work for a single company for much of his life, with the wife typically staying home to raise the kids and care for the home. Not necessarily the best deal for the wife, but my point is that a single person was able to provide financially for an entire family. A huge step up from the condition of the family farmer, where a man and his entire family would labor from sunup to sundown. Now, it seems we have gone backwards, with both parents often working full time and even multiple jobs, and the kids pitching in as they get older. Most people of my generation will be lucky to keep food on the table when they are seniors, let alone ever owning a home.&lt;br /&gt;How did we arrive here? I believe part of the blame lies in modern conveniences. Back in the 50s, things such as an automobile, and major appliances were seen as time saving conveniences. Those who could afford them, did so. Over time, luxuries began to be seen as, and later became in fact, necessities. Where once a car was a luxury, in most places today it is a neccessity. If a family today has no tv, those children will be made fun of and ostracised in school, due to lack of knowledge about pop culture.&lt;br /&gt;Where once the American dream was owning a home and having 2.5 children, today's 30 somethings just want to afford their medicine upon retiring, and perhaps have a room in a nice nursing home. So many things are presented to us as necessities, that many of us are overwhelmed and suckered into believing it. For instance, what would I do with a big screen tv? My living room is larger than most, and  a big screen would overwhelm it.&lt;br /&gt;My newest vehicle is 13 years old, and runs fine. Why would I go into debt for a fancy new truck that will cost one forth of what I paid for my house? I own my vehicles, debt free. I own my home, debt free. Well, except for the King's taxes, which must be paid yearly. My rent, as it were. I digress. Why would I put myself in debt for fancy toys? I have a friend I've known since high school. She got into auto repair, and excelled. She's been making as much as double my average salary for close to ten years now. She has nothing to show for it. Well, nearly nothing. After her truck was stolen recently, she  borrowed a page from me, and paid cash for a used truck, rather than go farther into debt.  However, she can't stop working for at least ten years, due to payments on jet skis, and ATVs and big  screen tvs and stereo equipment.  I'm not saying don't enjoy life. I'm not saying don't have nice things. But show restraint. Think about the nature of a purchase before laying down the plastic genie. I began paying my first mortgage at 24. I paid off a 5 bedroom home at 29. Think about that, before you buy a new car. Sure, that 2001 Ford Taurus has peeling paint, but it runs just fine. If you need a truck, trade for a good used one. There may come a time when you wish you had.&lt;br /&gt;We get caught up in fancy toys, and we lose sight of important things such as freedom. Not freedom to watch a movie on a 357" plasma monitor, or get my new H2 stuck in the mud where a Jeep driver has to pull me out. Freedom to hold my head up as a man, and know that my family has a place to live, that I have something to pass on to my daughter.&lt;br /&gt;If one is not free to cease working due to financial obligations, is one not as much a slave as if he were wearing chains? Our chains are made of federal reserve notes, not steel, but they hold us as surely.&lt;br /&gt;Rant over. For now.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt; Remember. Day by day, I grow increasingly frustrated by the inaction of those elected officials who are supposed to be safeguarding our freedoms. We, the people, no longer have any form of representative government. Rather, what we have are a multitude of self serving career politicians whose only consideration is for that which will gain them more wealth. "Taxation without representation" is alive and well in the U.S. of 2005.&lt;br /&gt;  What are we to do about it? Well, so far, nothing. So long as the powers that be continue with wave after wave of incrementalism, good men will sit upon their hands and do nothing. Why? Because we're a bunch of pussies, that's why. Nobody wants to go down in a hail of gunfire for somebody else. That's why we don't have men in every town rising up to shoot the bastards. It's because the government leaves us a comfort zone. We still have our families, we still get to keep our homes, so long as we pay the King's tax every year. There remains a line to be crossed.  For many, that line is farther than they ever thought it would be.  I know mine is far closer now than I would have believed 3 years ago. But I've complied with the last screwball law I intend to. My limit has been reached.  I will comply with current laws, but no farther.  I can take no more. However, so long as they don't directly come to confront me, I will remain nestled in my snug little home. Because I'm a pussy. I like being able to tuck my daughter in at night, and sleep in a warm bed next to my wife. This is no longer the america of my birth. I’ve felt that way for some time, but this week has really made it plain for all to see. The Bill Of Rights, if not dead, is on life support. &lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;Let’s have a look-see, shall we?&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--&gt; &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;1st Amendment- McCain-Feingold took a big chunk out of it, now New Orleans officials are confiscating cameras from people. Oh, and freedom of religion is out the window, too. I can’t pray to Odin in class, can I?&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;2nd Amndment- Be serious. We haven’t really had a second amendment since 1968. And that’s being generous. The machine gun tax started eroding that one way back in grandad’s day.&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;3&lt;sup&gt;rd&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment_ What’s that, you ask? Why, it’s the one that says the government can’t quarter troops on your property without permission. Hmm, where have all those national guard troops been staying? Well, at least some of them are staying in a church, without permission of the pastor. They couldn’t find him, so they moved in…..&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;4&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- Please. Need I list the violations of this one? How about New Orleans Police and National Guard troops taking guns from people in their own homes?&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;5&lt;sup&gt;Th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- See the 4&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;……Also see New London Vs Kelo……..&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;6&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- Speedy trial? C’mon, get serious. Some folks wait longer for their trial than they spend in prison, nowadays… &lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;7&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- Well, I was involved with a civil suit a couple of years ago. I got no jury. Hel, I didn’t even get a judge, just a county comissioner. So, that one’s gone, too.&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;8&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- I’d say permanent removal of voting and gun rights for petty “crimes” counts as cruel and unusual.&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;9&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;I’ll have to think a while, but I’m fairly certain this one’s gone, too.&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;10&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; Amendment- “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Where in the Constitution does it say the government can control what folks put into their bodies????&lt;/p&gt;     &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;Well, there you have it, folks. By the way, the bit I listed about the 4&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; ? That’s the sort of thing that set off Lexington and Concord so long ago. In New Orleans, it’s time for shooting to start, I’d say….&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p style="font-weight: bold;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;I really used to think that if gun confiscation started in the US, a lot of cops and troops would refuse. I guess orders are orders for most of them. I wonder&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;if there’ll be much mind changing once the shooting starts? Mind you, I don’t think the shooting of authority figures is a good thing. Far from it. In fact, I think it has the potential to bring on civil war.&lt;span style=""&gt;  &lt;/span&gt;I’d much rather see the authorities respecting people’s rights. I have friends in law enforcement, and in the military. I don’t know for certain what goes through the man’s mind. I’ll admit that. Sometimes I think his actions &lt;b&gt;must&lt;/b&gt; be those of a globalist pawn bent on subjigating the American people to the U.N.. Other times, I think he truly believes the things he does are right and just. I’m not yet certain which scenario frightens me more. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &amp;quot;Bookman Old Style&amp;quot;;"&gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;   &lt;/span&gt;Initially, I supported the war in Iraq. I didn’t vote for Bush in either election, but I felt the invasion of Iraq was spot on the thing to do. Weapons of mass destruction or not, Saddam was a monster at least partially of our own creation. Like a rabid dog who attacks the sheep, it’s the master’s job to put him down. We funded and aided Saddam, it was our job to spank him when he got too big for his britches. &lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p class="MsoNormal"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &amp;quot;Bookman Old Style&amp;quot;;"&gt;&lt;span style=""&gt;   &lt;/span&gt;At this point in time, however, I fail to understand why we are still in Iraq. Saddam is in prison. We are not reponsible for spreading democracy. To those who have lost friends and loved ones in this war, I’m sorry. I’ve lost them as well. Throwing more lives away makes no sense. At the height of the heroic age in that Viking colony, when every freeman carried a sword or axe or spear, the per capita murder rate was a lot less than in most urban areas in America today! I'm having one of those. It's not any one thing, rather the sum total of government intrusion into my life has goten to be too much for me to bear.&lt;br /&gt;The passage of the Real ID act, McCain-Feingold, The be a snitch or go to jail bill, the anti gun crap being pushed by members of my own legislature. It weighs on me, and occasionally, it's too much.  Why can't I be left alone? Why can't the state and federal government  just do their jobs?  No, they need  &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;more&lt;/span&gt; power. click it or ticket. Am I the only one tired of being told what to do?&lt;br /&gt;I have an idea. Let's give  the lower 2/3 of CA to Mexico. We'll keep it from Redding on North.  We'll send all the leftist freaks to New York and Chicago. The  rest of the country  will be the United States, and will go back to strict Constitutionally supported law.  All  Alphabet agencies will be disbanded and the employees thereof put to work on something useful, like building a DMZ between us and Mexico.&lt;br /&gt;I don't understand why people focus on how others live their lives. What I do is my business, so long as I'm not harming anyone. Director, Killology Research Group (&lt;a href="http://www.killology.com/"&gt;www.killology.com&lt;/a&gt;). Colonel Grossman is a somewhat controversial figure - he authored the book - "On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society" - a very interesting topic that our politically correct society would rarely discuss. (Thanks to Tom and Mark for sending the article)&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;blockquote&gt;&lt;strong&gt;On Sheep, Sheepdogs, and Wolves&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By Dave Grossman   &lt;p&gt;One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: "Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident." This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers, and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there that will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."...&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/blockquote&gt;    &lt;blockquote&gt;If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero's path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed. &lt;p&gt;Let me expand on this old soldier's excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial, which is what makes them sheep. They do not want to believe that there is evil in the world. They can accept the fact that fires can happen, which is why they want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and fire exits throughout their kids' schools. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in their kid's school. Our children are thousands of times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by school violence than fire, but the sheep's only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea of someone coming to kill or harm their child is just too hard, and so they chose the path of denial. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn't tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports in camouflage fatigues holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, "Baa." &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Until the wolf shows up! Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;The students, the victims, at Columbine High School were big, tough high school students, and under ordinary circumstances they would not have had the time of day for a police officer. They were not bad kids; they just had nothing to say to a cop. When the school was under attack, however, and SWAT teams were clearing the rooms and hallways, the officers had to physically peel those clinging, sobbing kids off of them. This is how the little lambs feel about their sheepdog when the wolf is at the door. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Look at what happened after September 11, 2001 when the wolf pounded hard on the door. Remember how America, more than ever before, felt differently about their law enforcement officers and military personnel? Remember how many times you heard the word hero? &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Also understand that a sheepdog is a funny critter: He is always sniffing around out on the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that go bump in the night, and yearning for a righteous battle. That is, the young sheepdogs yearn for a righteous battle. The old sheepdogs are a little older and wiser, but they move to the sound of the guns when needed right along with the young ones. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference." When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;There is nothing morally superior about the sheepdog, the warrior, but he does have one real advantage. Only one. And that is that he is able to survive and thrive in an environment that destroys 98 percent of the population. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;There was research conducted a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes. These cons were in prison for serious, predatory crimes of violence: assaults, murders and killing law enforcement officers. The vast majority said that they specifically targeted victims by body language: slumped walk, passive behavior and lack of awareness. They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa, when they select one out of the herd that is least able to protect itself. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Some people may be destined to be sheep and others might be genetically primed to be wolves or sheepdogs. But I believe that most people can choose which one they want to be, and I'm proud to say that more and more Americans are choosing to become sheepdogs. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Seven months after the attack on September 11, 2001, Todd Beamer was honored in his hometown of Cranbury, New Jersey. Todd, as you recall, was the man on Flight 93 over Pennsylvania who called on his cell phone to alert an operator from United Airlines about the hijacking. When he learned of the other three passenger planes that had been used as weapons, Todd dropped his phone and uttered the words, "Let's roll," which authorities believe was a signal to the other passengers to confront the terrorist hijackers. In one hour, a transformation occurred among the passengers - athletes, business people and parents. -- From sheep to sheepdogs and together they fought the wolves, ultimately saving an unknown number of lives on the ground. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;"Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself after that?" &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;"There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men." - Edmund Burke &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Here is the point I like to emphasize; especially to the thousands of police officers and soldiers I speak to each year. In nature the sheep, real sheep, are born as sheep. Sheepdogs are born that way, and so are wolves. They didn't have a choice. But you are not a critter. As a human being, you can be whatever you want to be. It is a conscious, moral decision. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust, or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior's path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;For example, many officers carry their weapons in church. They are well concealed in ankle holsters, shoulder holsters or inside-the-belt holsters tucked into the small of their backs. Anytime you go to some form of religious service, there is a very good chance that a police officer in your congregation is carrying. You will never know if there is such an individual in your place of worship, until the wolf appears to massacre you and your loved ones. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;I was training a group of police officers in Texas, and during the break, one officer asked his friend if he carried his weapon in church. The other cop replied, "I will never be caught without my gun in church." I asked why he felt so strongly about this, and he told me about a cop he knew who was at a church massacre in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1999. In that incident, a mentally deranged individual came into the church and opened fire, gunning down fourteen people. He said that officer believed he could have saved every life that day if he had been carrying his gun. His own son was shot, and all he could do was throw himself on the boy's body and wait to die. That cop looked me in the eye and said, "Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself after that?" &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Some individuals would be horrified if they knew this police officer was carrying a weapon in church. They might call him paranoid and would probably scorn him. Yet these same individuals would be enraged and would call for "heads to roll" if they found out that the airbags in their cars were defective, or that the fire extinguisher and fire sprinklers in their kids' school did not work. They can accept the fact that fires and traffic accidents can happen and that there must be safeguards against them. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Their only response to the wolf, though, is denial, and all too often their response to the sheepdog is scorn and disdain. But the sheepdog quietly asks himself, "Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones were attacked and killed, and you had to stand there helplessly because you were unprepared for that day?" &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: you didn't bring your gun, you didn't train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by your fear, helplessness, and horror at your moment of truth. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Gavin de Becker puts it like this in "Fear Less," his superb post-9/11 book, which should be required reading for anyone trying to come to terms with our current world situation: "...denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn't so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling." &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;And so the warrior must strive to confront denial in all aspects of his life, and prepare himself for the day when evil comes. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;If you are warrior who is legally authorized to carry a weapon and you step outside without that weapon, then you become a sheep, pretending that the bad man will not come today. No one can be "on" 24/7, for a lifetime. Everyone needs down time. But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself... "Baa." &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;This business of being a sheep or a sheep dog is not a yes-no dichotomy. It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees, a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-sand-sheep and on the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on one end or the other. Most of us live somewhere in between. Since 9-11 almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum, away from denial. "The apprehensions were not to increase after the Minuteman volunteers left. It was as simple as that."&lt;br /&gt; Another agent said the Naco supervisors "were clear in their intention" to keep new arrests to an "absolute minimum" to offset the effect of the Minuteman vigil, adding that patrols along the border have been severely limited.&lt;br /&gt; Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar at the agency's Washington headquarters called the accusations "outright wrong," saying that supervisors at the Naco station had not blocked agents from making arrests and that the station's 350 agents were being "supported in carrying out" their duties.&lt;br /&gt; "Border Patrol agents are the front line of defense against terrorism," Chief Aguilar said, adding that the 11,000 agents nationwide are "meeting that challenge, head-on ... as daunting a task as that may sound."&lt;br /&gt; The chief -- a former head of the agency's Tucson sector, which includes the Naco station -- said that with the world watching the Arizona border because of the Minuteman Project, agents in Naco "demonstrated flexibility and resilience in carrying out their critical homeland security duties and responsibilities."&lt;br /&gt; But Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, yesterday said "credible sources" within the Border Patrol also had told him of the decision by Naco supervisors to keep new arrests to a minimum, saying he was angry but not surprised.&lt;br /&gt; "It's like telling a cop to stand by and watch burglars loot a store but don't arrest any of them," he said. "This is another example of decisions being made at the highest levels of the Border Patrol that are hurting morale and helping to rot the agency from within.&lt;br /&gt; "I worry about our efforts in Congress to increase the number of agents," he said. "Based on these kinds of orders, we could spend the equivalent of the national debt and never have secure borders."&lt;br /&gt; Mr. Tancredo, chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, blamed the Bush administration for setting an immigration enforcement tone that suggests to those enforcing the law that he is not serious about secure borders.&lt;br /&gt; "We need to get the president to come to grips with the seriousness of the problem," he said. "I know he doesn't like to utter the words, 'I was wrong,' but if we have another incident like September 11 by people who came through our borders without permission, I hope he doesn't have to say 'I'm sorry.' "&lt;br /&gt; During the Minuteman vigil, Border Patrol supervisors in Arizona discounted their efforts, saying a drop in apprehensions during their protest was because of the Mexican government's deployment of military and police south of the targeted area and a new federal program known as the Arizona Border Control Initiative that brought manpower increases to the state.&lt;br /&gt; The Naco supervisors blamed the volunteers for unnecessarily tripping sensors, disturbing draglines and interfering with the normal operations of the agents. They said that their impact on illegals was "negligible" and that civilians should leave immigration enforcement "to the professionals."&lt;br /&gt; Several field agents credited the volunteers with cutting the flow of illegal aliens in the targeted Naco area, saying the number of apprehended illegals dropped from an average of 500 a day to less than 15 a day.&lt;br /&gt; More than 850 volunteers, in a protest of the lax immigration enforcement policies of the White House and Congress, sought to reduce the flow of illegal aliens along a popular immigration corridor on the Arizona-Mexico border near Naco by reporting illegals to the Border Patrol as they crossed into the United States.&lt;br /&gt; Their goal was to show that increased manpower on the border would effectively deter illegal immigration. Organizers said the protest resulted in Border Patrol arrests of 349 illegal aliens.&lt;br /&gt; Area residents, in a half-page ad in the Sunday edition of the Sierra Vista Herald, told the volunteers: "Thanks for doing what our government won't -- close the border to illegal aliens. It was the quietest month we've had in many years ... It was a brief skirmish that took place on April 19, 1775 between some 70 colonial minutemen commanded by Captain John Parker, and about 700 British soldiers marching on Concord, Massachusetts, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith. The American militia, warned of the British approach by the patriot Paul Revere and others, had assembled to halt the British. Inspired by the words of Captain Parker: "Stand your ground; don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here," the Americans refused to disperse when ordered to do so by the commander of the British advance units. Gunfire was exchanged and eight Americans were killed before the minutemen retreated.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Write to your congress critters today. It is pointless, wasted effort, and a failed attempt to legislate morality. Simply put, it doesn't work. Go to your local high school, and ask the students there which is easier to obtain, tobacco, or crank. They will undoubtedly give the answer that crank is by far, the easier of the two for them to score. The reason for this is that tobacco is legal, and therefore strictly regulated. Shopowners make consistent efforts not sell to minors, because big daddy government imposes strict penalties for sale to minors. Same case with alcohol. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Back when I was in high school, everybody had pot and crank for the weekend parties, but beer and hard liquor was darn hard to come by. We couldn't buy it on street corners, we had to find somebody sympathetic to our cause. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;The war on drugs, as well as the war on guns, have racism as their root cause. White men were afraid their women would be lured to opium dens, where they would sleep with Chinese men. Tales of Negro men driven into a fury by cocaine were the sensational media stories of the day. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Having said that, if you're growing weed, knowing it's illegal, it's just plain stupid to be running a chop shop on the premises. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Law Dog, how many times have you caught drug users or people with warrants due to expired reg, or busted taillights, etc? If your state is remotely similar to CA, I'd bet on the answer being often.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;If you're doing something you know is illegal, fair or not, infringement on liberty or not, it is up to you to avoid being caught. This requires that you not do stupid stuff. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;If I were to decide not to get my CCW, and carry despite that, because it is my right, I certainly wouldn't be driving around with expired reg, nor would I be causing public disturbances, or any of a hundred other things I have seen tweakers do which caused them to be arrested.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;My own family has been torn by drug abuse. My sister (now 37) has lived with my parents since she was 26. The last time she held a job was when she was 26. Her husband and 3 children live with them as well. My sister and her husband choose to use crank, rather than be productive members of society. My mother and father enable this behavior through their finacial support. After 10 years of watching my parents being pulled into a hole, I chose to diassociate myself from my family. My daughter will never see her grandmother, grandfather, or aunt again. She will never have the feelings of embarrassment I have had my entire life when looking at my family.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;In contrast to this, is my former Gothi (equivalent to a priest) . He is a recreational pot user. He smokes every morning and every night, as well as some occasions between. He is a pillar of the community, and holds down a full time job outside of the church. To speak with him, you would never know he uses. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Myself, I don't see the attraction, and I have no sympathy for those like my sister. Which I really needed to do anyway, for the purpose of rants on other government infringement on Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. Notice I did not say Constitutionally &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;granted?&lt;/span&gt; The Constitution merely affirms and enumerates certain rights.
